Sometimes it’s so easy to do we don’t have to think. Other times, it can be downright difficult.
As a writer, it was terrifying to think about sending my novel to someone for the first time. I sat and stared at my screen for a real five minutes.
Have you ever realized you’re wallowing?
Like the moms in the pool when I was five, who got in the water then swam in place? I never understood it. Why didn’t they want to go anywhere?
I can relate more now. I’ve been stuck on this book all year. Too stubborn to get out but too afraid to move forward.
So now I’m saying yes. Yes to meeting with my aunt’s friend who used to be an editor, even if I’ve not ready. Yes to her offer to read it and give me her thoughts. Yes to moving forward.
It’s easy to rationalize away an uncertain step forward. As a very literal person, it’s like breathing. But I’ve come to realize, it gets you nowhere.
The next time you have a choice between what is wise and what is brave, be brave and say yes like I did.
No matter what the feedback is from the editor, and I doubt I’ll be thrilled by all of it, I’m happy. Because I clicked send and moved toward my dream.
