Why Thinking Before Speaking Is Overrated. . .

by | Oct 7, 2016 | Blog | 0 comments

Sometimes I wonder why big words come so readily to mind. And not just big words either but unusual and unpopular and old-fashioned words.

They slip out before I can stop them. And yes, I try to stop them. The other day the word harrowing fit itself into a sentence and before I realized it, out it came. Awkward.

Perhaps I was destined to be a writer.

Perhaps not.

Because when you’re writing, you don’t want people having to google the word caricature to understand your point. For me, much of editing is taking out long words and inserting normal ones.

Do you pause to think so often in your conversations that people wonder if you have anything to say? I do. And sometimes I end up not saying anything at all.

This is where I’m going to say what I think. About things that matter to me and about long words and probably about chocolate milk too. I really like chocolate milk.

If you’ve ever read a blog post that said, ‘This Is The First Post I’m So Excited To Be Sharing My Amazingness With You’, you’ll know what I’m trying to spare you.

Maybe that’s preferable to this jumble of nonsense. Maybe we’ll both start saying things without thinking and good things can happen for us both. Maybe you’ll tell me what you think.
